About

Memory shouldn't be an afterthought for AI agents

Most agent frameworks bolt memory on after the fact: a vector store here, a summarization prompt there. ClawDB starts from the assumption that memory is the substrate everything else runs on.

Direction

Open core, MCP-native

The core database runtime is free and open-source. You can run it locally or self-host it with no license fees. The hosted MCP gateway exists so teams that don't want to operate their own memory infrastructure can point a client at a URL and get the same engine, managed. Looking ahead, we're building toward an x402 memory marketplace, where agents can pay per call for specialized memory endpoints instead of every team rebuilding the same domain knowledge from scratch.

Why now

Agents need state, not just tools

Tool-calling solved what an agent can do. It didn't solve what an agent remembers between doing it. As agents run longer, coordinate with each other, and operate with less human oversight, the quality of their memory becomes the ceiling on how much autonomy is actually safe to grant them. That's the problem we're building for, and it only gets more important as agents take on longer-running, higher-stakes work.

How we build

Small team, in the open

ClawDB is built by a small team that ships in public: the core engine is open-source on GitHub, the changelog is updated as things land rather than in batched announcements, and support requests go to a real inbox that gets read by the people building the product, not a ticketing queue.

Where we are today

Shipped so far

  • A hosted, multi-tenant MCP gateway with instant per-workspace provisioning.
  • Database Studio for creating typed memory stores from a template or an AI-drafted schema.
  • Git-like memory branching, object storage, and reflection-based insights (contradictions, extracted facts, preferences).
  • A full dark UI rebrand across the marketing site and dashboard, with dedicated pages for every major topic.

The changelog has the full, ongoing list.

FAQ

Common questions

Both. The core Database runtime is a genuinely open-source project anyone can use for free, and ClawDB the company runs the hosted MCP gateway and dashboard on top of it.
